Milward Funeral Directors endeavors to make it possible for families to hold a traditional funeral service while using products that are eco-friendly.
A Green burial takes place without the use of
formaldehyde-based embalming. If a visitation is conducted, the funeral home uses
eco-friendly cosmetics and applies a minimal amount.Eco-friendly caskets that do not contain metal and are biodegradable are used. The grave consists of a grave liner instead of a vault.
The service can be held at Milward Funeral Directors, your place of worship, home, park or other location.
Milward Funeral Directors is the only funeral service provider in Lexington to be Green Burial Certified by the Green Burial Council.
About the Green Burial Council
Since 2005, the Green Burial Council has been working to make burial sustainable for the planet, meaningful for the families, and economically viable for the provider.
The Council has developed a certification program for the funeral home and cemeteries; built an international network of "approved providers" who are committed to reducing toxins, waste, and carbon emissions; and, brought conservation organizations together with cemetery, cremation and funeral home companies to create burial programs that facilitate the restoration, acquisition and stewardship of natural areas.
