Ockerman, Jean (90)
Jean Lawson Ockerman, widow of Bert W. Ockerman, died Friday, March 5, 2010, after a brief illness. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ann Malone (John) and her son, Ed Ockerman (Phyllis), and five grandsons, Scott Gibbs (Mary) Jason Ockerman (April), Justin Ockerman (Mindy), Bert Hutchinson (Markey), Will Hutchinson, and granddaughter, Jen Brown (Craig), and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother, W. Carl Lawson. Jean was born in Artemis, Ky. and was the daughter of W.W. and Laura Lawson. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont in Blacksburg, VA and received her undergraduate and masters degree from the University of Ky. She began her math teaching career in Corbin, Ky. where she met her husband, Bert, also a teacher, at the young age of 20. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved the special times spent with her friends at Centenary Methodist Church where she was a circle leader and worked tirelessly to organize the church Library. Every time the seniors bus was traveling, she tried to be on it. Memorial Service will be Monday, March 8, at Centenary United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Milward-Broadway in charge of arrangements.
